PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH AND WELLBEING

At Safe Support Limited, we recognise good physical and mental health are essential for young people to unlock their potential. Depending on the individual, this can be achieved in a number of ways. Clearly, we tailor all support in this area in a person-centred manner, that takes account of an individual’s strengths and aspirations.

SUPPORT WITH OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES AND EXERCISE

Safe Support Limited recognises that physical exercise is essential for good mental health. The great outdoors provides opportunities for activities and experience that not only aid physical health but also mental well-being. We therefore tailor make activities, based upon the wishes of individuals that they can enjoy and become more active in the process. Examples of these activities include: walking, running, cycling, bowling, football, rugby etc.

OPPORTUNITIES TO GET INVOLVED IN THE COMMUNITY THROUGH VOLUNTEERING

Community involvement through volunteering can have tremendous benefits for health, both mental and physical.  At Safe Support Limited, we have a range of partners in the voluntary sector that can provide young people with unique and beneficial opportunities. These can build upon their strengths and make young people become part of the communities in which they live. In the past such opportunities have included working at food banks, planting trees, working in charity shops and working with animals in shelters. All of these activities build confidence, team skills and independence as well as the physical and mental health benefits.

WORKING IN PARTNERSHIP WITH EXTERNAL AGENCIES

Safe Support Limited work alongside external agencies in order to improve the health and well-being of those we support. These include work with Mental Health organisations such as Mind, Adult mental Health Support, Drug Support Organisations such as Refresh and Alcoholics Anonymous, Sexual Health Services such as Conifer House, Charities and other organisations. Together these partnerships help individuals to become more independent over time and more able to contribute to society.

THE IMPORTANCE OF GOOD NUTRITION

Safe Support Limited understands  that physical and mental health is clearly linked to diet and nutrition.

Through support, we guide young people in the preparation of nutritious, healthy meals on a budget.

The support from a trained chef is offered alongside nutrition, menu  planning and budgeting. This provides the young person with practical support on their pathway towards independence.

INDEPENDENCE THROUGH A TAILOR MADE PATHWAY PROGRAM

At Safe Support  Limited,  a structured independence plan  provides a program that meets the needs of young people and prepares them for independence. This program is monitored and assessed  in order to ensure each young person is aware of their progress and their next steps towards independent living.
